Bandits kidnap 4-year-old son of Katsina council chairman, kill security aide
Suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on the residence of Malumfashi Local Government Chairman, Hon. Maharazu Dayi, in the early hours of Tuesday, killing his security aide and abducting his four-year-old son, Ahmed.
According to a local resident, the assailants arrived around 1:45 AM in three vehicles — a notable departure from their usual use of motorcycles.
Although the chairman was not home during the attack, the bandits gained access by scaling a neighbor’s fence. The chairman’s wife’s sister spotted the intruders and raised an alarm.
In a desperate attempt to evade capture, some family members hid in a toilet while the chairman’s wife locked herself in her room. Despite these efforts, the attackers managed to seize two of the chairman’s children who were sleeping in another room.
Hon. Dayi, who was in Katsina at the time, was immediately contacted by his wife. He alerted the Malumfashi Divisional Police Officer (DPO), who dispatched officers to the scene.
A fierce gun battle ensued, forcing the bandits to release one of the abducted children. However, they escaped with four-year-old Ahmed.
Katsina Police Command spokesperson, DSP Sadiq Abubakar, confirmed the incident, adding that three suspects have been arrested.
Sadiq also confirmed the death of the chairman’s security aide, Shamsudeen Ahmed, who succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to secure the child’s release and bring the perpetrators to justice.
