Bauchi Police Seal Pharmacy, Arrest Fake Pharmacist After Patient Injury

The Bauchi State Police Command has shut down Hamdala Special Medicine Store in the Yelwa area following allegations of unprofessional conduct that resulted in severe injury to a teenage patient.

Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil confirmed in a statement that the action followed a complaint from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management regarding Ibrahim Hassan Mamman, the store’s operator, known locally as “Degree.”

According to the complaint, a 15-year-old girl, Maryam Magaji, was brought to the store for malaria treatment, where she received an injection that later caused significant bodily harm. She was subsequently admitted to a hospital, where medical professionals confirmed the injuries were linked to the administered injection.

Wakil said Ibrahim, aged 27, voluntarily confessed to the incident during interrogation. He explained that on July 1, 2025, the victim’s brother insisted she receive injections despite being prescribed tablets. Ibrahim administered 80mg intramuscular injections for three consecutive days, after which the patient’s condition worsened.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ibrahim is neither a licensed pharmacist nor a medical doctor. Authorities also recovered expired medications, including Tuxil suspensions produced by Fidson Healthcare Plc and Tuyil Pharmaceuticals Ltd., from the premises.

This incident underscores growing concerns about unregulated pharmaceutical practices in Bauchi State and across Nigeria. Previous actions by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) have seen hundreds of unlicensed outlets sealed for operating without registration and providing unauthorized medical services.

In a related case, police arrested a woman, Zuwaira Hassan, for allegedly assaulting her 10-year-old stepdaughter in Toro Local Government Area. The victim was rescued and taken to General Hospital, Toro, while Zuwaira and a native doctor, Fatima Abdullahi, believed to have facilitated the act, were taken into custody.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered both cases to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation, assuring the public that justice will be served and the rights of victims protected.
