Bedridden Nigerian Woman Alleges Police Harassment After Accusing Ex-Husband, a Pastor, of Years of Domestic Abuse

Victory Oyakire, a 28-year-old woman from Ekpoma, Edo State, says she’s now facing intimidation from law enforcement after publicly accusing her ex-husband, Pastor Godfirst Omiunu, of years of severe domestic abuse that left her bedridden.

Vicky, as she is popularly known, said her marriage to the General Overseer of Fruit of Restoration Ministry in Warri, Delta State, turned violent just weeks after their wedding. She revealed that the abuse began when her husband objected to her watching a reality TV show, leading to a brutal beating that caused her to lose a pregnancy.

Now disabled and confined to a bed for over three years, Vicky has shared heartbreaking accounts of starvation, physical assault, psychological torment, and emotional manipulation during her marriage. She alleges that Pastor Omiunu used his church platform to present a loving image while secretly subjecting her to humiliation and violence.

According to her, he frequently mocked her for having sickle cell anemia, threatened her life, engaged in infidelity including with church members and used pornographic material and sexting under the guise of “learning new skills.”

Despite the abuse, Vicky said she remained in the marriage due to fear, shame, and repeated manipulation. It wasn’t until her ex-husband tried to assault her at her parents’ home that she finally told her family the truth.

Today, her dreams of working as a French teacher are on hold. She cannot afford physiotherapy, relies on her aging parents for support, and raises her daughter the only surviving child from her pregnancies with little financial assistance from her ex-husband.

Vicky also claimed she has been threatened with arrest for defamation following a viral video where she detailed her abuse. She says police officers have visited her home demanding she delete the video, accusing her of inciting violence. Some allegedly warned her over the phone to “take the video down and forget the case.”

“I shared my story to calm people, not to cause trouble. I don’t want revenge just justice and a chance to walk and live in peace again,” she said.
