Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia Honors Francesca Ordega for Outstanding Performance at 2025 WAFCON
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has honored Super Falcons star Francesca Ordega for her outstanding performance in the recently concluded 2025 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
During a state ceremony held in Makurdi Governor Alia presented Ordega with a ₦50 million cash prize a three-bedroom apartment in the state capital and announced that a major street would be renamed in her honor.
The governor praised Ordega as the greatest sports ambassador from Benue in recent times and lauded her for bringing pride to the state and country with five WAFCON victories.
Governor Alia also gifted ₦10 million to Ordega’s grassroots coach in Gboko recognizing the crucial role of early mentorship in her success.
He urged parents to encourage their daughters to engage in sports, highlighting Ordega’s achievements as an inspiration for young athletes.
In her response, Ordega expressed gratitude and called for greater investment in grassroots sports development, training programs and scholarships to support young female athletes balancing education and sports careers. She also advocated for peace and progress in Benue State.
The ceremony featured notable figures, including Nigerian icon Innocent Idibia (2Baba), who applauded the governor’s commitment to nurturing sports talent and announced upcoming initiatives to promote youth talent and cultural unity in the state.
This celebration not only recognizes Ordega’s achievements but also signifies Benue State’s commitment to supporting sports and empowering the next generation of champions.
