Bernie Sanders Issues Stark Warning Against War With Iran, Cites Historical Deception in Vietnam and Iraq

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has issued a powerful rebuke of recent American military actions targeting Iran, warning that the nation is once again being led down a perilous and deceptive path toward another devastating war in the Middle East.

In a statement released Sunday, Sanders criticized former President Donald Trump’s recent military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, accusing him and his allies of reigniting tensions that could spiral into full-scale conflict.

The Vermont senator, renowned for his anti-war stance, drew chilling parallels to America’s past military misadventures in Vietnam and Iraq two wars he described as being founded on deliberate misinformation.

“The American people are being lied to again today,” Sanders declared. “We cannot allow history to repeat itself.”

Sanders recalled how the Vietnam War, which claimed the lives of over 58,000 American soldiers and left millions of Vietnamese dead, was justified by false intelligence and fabricated threats.

He also referenced the 2003 invasion of Iraq, fueled by baseless claims of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). Central to that narrative, Sanders noted, was a now-infamous speech by then-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the U.S. Congress, insisting that Saddam Hussein was actively building nuclear weapons a claim that was never substantiated.

Instead of fanning the flames of another Middle Eastern war, Sanders urged the U.S. government to shift its focus inward tackling urgent domestic issues such as healthcare reform, education funding, climate change, and income inequality.

“We face enormous challenges here at home,” he stated. “Dragging the country into another war based on deception is a betrayal of the American people.”

Sanders’ statement comes amid rising global anxiety following the U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. In response, nations including Russia, China, and Pakistan have called for an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting. They are pushing for a resolution that demands an immediate ceasefire and a return to diplomatic negotiations to prevent further escalation.
