Betrayed at Home The Horrors of Fathers Raping Their Daughters
A harrowing case has emerged from Akure, Ondo State, where a young girl suffered sexual abuse at the hands of her biological father, Adebowale Adegboye, and later her stepfather, Idowu Akinseye. Both men have been accused of repeatedly violating the 10-year-old girl, leaving her with deep physical and emotional scars.
According to court documents, Adebowale Adegboye allegedly raped his daughter and was later joined in abuse by her stepfather Akinseye. The girl was eventually rescued, but not before going through an abortion reportedly procured by a medical doctor, Israel Ojo, who has also been arrested and charged in connection with the case.
The accused men faced multiple charges including incest, indecent assault, and conspiracy to commit abortion. The Magistrate Court in Akure ordered that Adegboye, Akinseye, and the doctor be remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.
This case is part of a disturbing rise in incest and sexual abuse cases in Nigeria, with many victims suffering in silence due to poverty, social stigma, and systemic failures. Legal experts stress that such abuse is often about power and control rather than sexual attraction, exploiting the trust and dependence children have on their abusers.
Advocates for child protection warn that cases like this are only the visible part of a larger, hidden crisis. They call for stronger advocacy, transparency in prosecutions, and community support to protect vulnerable children from similar abuse.
The unfolding legal battle seeks justice for the survivor and highlights the urgent need for societal change to break the silence surrounding child sexual abuse within families.
