“Born Rich and Still Winning” Davido Fires Back at Troll Who Mocked His Privilege
Afrobeats superstar Davido has once again proven he’s unfazed by online criticism, delivering a humorous clapback to an X (formerly Twitter) user who tried to shame him for being born into wealth.
The troll had taken aim at the singer’s background, claiming his fame and lifestyle were the result of nothing more than privilege. But Davido, known for his witty comebacks and confidence, wasn’t having it.
In response, he posted:
“Born rich, die rich. In between, I worked hard and made even more.”

The post immediately caught fire online, with fans praising his unapologetic attitude and self-awareness. Many pointed out that while Davido may have come from a wealthy family, his consistency, chart-topping hits, and global tours prove that his success is far from handed to him.
One fan replied, “This guy has hustled hard. You can’t fake 10 years of hits.”
Another added, “If being rich was all it took, every billionaire’s child would be famous.”
Davido, the son of Nigerian billionaire and business mogul Adedeji Adeleke, has never hidden his background.
In fact, he often references his upbringing in his music and interviews. However, he’s also credited with blazing his own trail in the music industry, amassing a loyal global fan base and racking up multiple awards along the way.
Despite the occasional social media jab, Davido continues to dominate the Afrobeats scene and this latest exchange only reinforced his position as one of the genre’s most confident and consistent stars.
