BREAKING: Atiku Abubakar Officially Resigns from PDP, Citing Irreconcilable Differences
Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending a long-standing association with the party he helped build.
In a resignation letter dated July 14, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Jada 1 Ward in Adamawa State, Atiku expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities afforded to him but explained that recent developments within the party no longer align with his principles.
Atiku’s letter, shared publicly by Dele Momodu, reads in part:
“Serving two full terms as Vice President and twice running as the party’s presidential candidate has been a defining chapter of my life. As a founding father of the PDP, this decision is deeply painful.
However, the party’s current direction diverges significantly from the core values we once stood for, leaving me no option but to step away.”
This move follows Atiku’s recent alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, which includes prominent political figures such as Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola.
The coalition is positioning itself as a stronger political alternative ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. Atiku concluded his resignation letter by wishing the party well and thanking its leadership for past support, signaling a new chapter in his political career.
