BREAKING: Kwara Resident Regains Freedom After Kidnappers’ N150m Ransom Demand

Alhaji Adam Gbechi, a resident of Lata Nna in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, has regained his freedom days after being abducted by armed bandits.

Gbechi was taken during a violent raid on his community, an incident that left residents in fear and further highlighted growing insecurity in the area. He was released and returned home safely on Monday morning.

His release comes barely 24 hours after the kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦150 million, though it remains unclear whether any payment was made. A close relative, speaking anonymously, insisted that no ransom was paid before his freedom was secured.

The attack also saw Gbechi’s brother, Alhaji Aji Hajaworo, and a married woman abducted, though they managed to escape shortly after capture. Gbechi, however, remained in captivity after his family openly admitted they could not meet the hefty financial demand.

Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding his release remain unclear, leaving many in the community surprised.

The incident follows another attack on Sunday night in Lade, Patigi Local Government Area, where gunmen killed a resident, Alhaji Gomina, shortly after evening prayers. Witnesses said the attackers shot him without provocation before escaping.

These events have deepened fears in Kwara North and South, where cases of kidnappings, killings, and forced displacement have been on the rise, forcing many villagers to abandon their homes for safety.
