Buckingham Palace Confirms Prince Andrew Stripped of Titles Following Scandal

King Charles III has formally stripped his brother, Prince Andrew, of all remaining royal titles and honours, ordering him to vacate his official residence following renewed controversy over Andrew’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that the king had “initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew,” marking the first time in over a century that a British royal has faced such an action. With this decision, Andrew will now be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and will move from the Royal Lodge to private accommodation on the Sandringham estate.

The decision follows rising public and political pressure after evidence surfaced suggesting Andrew maintained contact with Epstein longer than he had previously admitted.

The issue reignited controversy following the release of Nobody’s Girl, a memoir by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims, who had accused Andrew of sexually abusing her at age 17. Giuffre passed away in April but had previously reached a multimillion-pound settlement with Andrew in 2022 without any admission of guilt from him.

Buckingham Palace said the king’s action reflected “serious lapses of judgement,” and emphasized that “Their Majesties’ sympathies remain with victims and survivors of all forms of abuse.”

Giuffre’s brother, Skye Roberts, welcomed the decision, praising the courage of his sister and saying, “An ordinary American girl brought down a British prince with her truth and extraordinary courage.”

Earlier this month, Andrew, 65, had already relinquished the title Duke of York. He will now lose all remaining honours, including the Order of the Garter and Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, ending his formal association with the British royal household.
