Buratai Warns Wike’s Clash with Military Officer Threatens National Security
Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (Rtd), has raised serious concerns over FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s confrontation with military personnel in Abuja.
The widely circulated video shows Wike in a heated exchange with soldiers over a disputed plot of land, prompting Buratai to describe the incident as a threat to national security.
The retired army chief emphasised that such behaviour could erode military discipline and strain the relationship between civil authorities and security institutions.
Buratai stated:
“His public disparagement of a uniformed officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces transcends mere misconduct; it represents a palpable threat to national security and institutional integrity.”
He further warned that verbal aggression toward a uniformed officer disrespects the authority of the Commander-in-Chief and sends the wrong signal to other officers, potentially undermining the armed forces’ cohesion.
Buratai urged Wike to apologise to President Bola Tinubu and the officer involved, stressing that mutual respect between political leaders and the military is crucial to national stability.
He added:
“Our nation’s security must come first. It is time for decisive action, not politics of military bashing. The integrity of our Armed Forces demands nothing less.”
