Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, recently expressed his disappointment in the lack of belief from fellow Nigerians regarding his position in comparison to American music stars.

In an emphatic declaration, Burna Boy revealed that his upcoming album, titled “I Told Them…,” serves as his bold and unapologetic response to the persistent detractors who have tirelessly attempted to discredit him throughout his musical journey.

The self-proclaimed “African Giant,” Burna Boy, expressed his frustration with the tendency of Nigerians to prioritize and rate up-and-coming American rappers over him.

He said, “To this day, there’s many Nigerians who can tell you an American rapper who just started their career, and they’ll say they’re bigger than Burna Boy. They don’t understand it. They’ll say, ‘There’s no way someone who talks like me, can even be on the same level as an American artist.”

Burna Boy highlighted the evolution of Nigerian music and its impact on the playlists of local media houses. He noted that in the past, American songs were dominant and received more airplay compared to Nigerian music.
