Bus Plunges Into River in Taraba, Many Feared Dead

Tragedy struck on Sunday after a commercial bus carrying an unspecified number of passengers plunged into the Namnai River in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The incident was reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who said the vehicle, branded Adamawa Express, crashed while attempting to cross a collapsed bridge.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus lost balance on the broken section of the Namnai Bridge in the early hours of the day and tumbled into the river.

Makama noted that the bridge, which collapsed over a year ago, has remained unrepaired despite repeated promises by successive governments. Local residents described it as a constant threat to lives and property.

“We have lost many lives and property here because of government neglect. This tragedy shows how urgent the repair of this bridge is,” one resident lamented.

Details about the number of passengers and casualties were still unclear at the time of filing this report.

Efforts to reach the Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, Yahaya Suleiman, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone did not connect, and text messages were unanswered.

Photos shared online showed the wreckage of the bus and the remains of some victims recovered from the river.
