Candace Owens Defies Macron Couple, Dismisses Defamation Lawsuit Over Gender Allegations Against French First Lady
American conservative commentator Candace Owens has publicly dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, over her repeated claims that the French First Lady was born male. The suit, filed in Delaware, accuses Owens of a targeted smear campaign based on a widely discredited conspiracy theory.
In a new video posted on her YouTube channel, Owens remained defiant, mocking the legal challenge and daring the French first couple to pursue the case to the discovery phase of the U.S. court system. “You were born a man, and you will die a man,” Owens declared in the video. “Give us a blood sample. I’ll send doctors.”
The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in Delaware Superior Court, describes Owens’ statements as a campaign of “global humiliation” and “relentless bullying.” The Macrons argue that Owens amplified a baseless conspiracy — long circulated among far-right groups in France — claiming that Brigitte Macron is actually a transgender woman named Jean-Michel Trogneux, her older brother.
In her response, Owens rejected the allegations of defamation and framed her comments as part of a broader crusade against what she called “global perverts.” She told viewers she is prepared to battle the Macrons in court and accused them of being part of a global elite she seeks to expose.
“I think you’re sick. I think you’re disgusting,” Owens said. “And I am fully prepared to take on this battle on behalf of the entire world.”
The lawsuit seeks both compensatory and punitive damages across 22 counts. Legal experts note that the Macrons, as public figures, face a high legal threshold under U.S. defamation law — they must prove that Owens acted with “actual malice” by knowingly spreading false information or showing reckless disregard for the truth.
While rumors about Brigitte Macron’s gender have existed on the fringes of French media for years, Owens’ recent remarks brought them to a global stage, prompting the unprecedented legal action from a sitting world leader.
Critics have long accused Owens of promoting misinformation and hate speech under the guise of political commentary. Supporters, however, view her as a fearless voice challenging establishment narratives.
As of now, neither the Macrons nor Owens have issued further public statements beyond what has been filed or shared online.
