Catholic Priest Hails Naval Officer’s Bravery in Viral Clash with Wike, Says Nigerians Still Have Men of Integrity

A Catholic priest, Father Mentor Ehio, has publicly praised Lieutenant Yerima Nwamama, the Nigerian Naval officer who engaged in a heated confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a video that has since gone viral across social media.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Father Ehio applauded the officer for his “courage and boldness,” describing his conduct during the incident as a source of renewed faith for many Nigerians.

“Thank you so much, Officer A.M. Yerima, for your courage and boldness to stand your ground. That little episode has given a lot of people hope a belief that we still have noble people who are willing to enthrone civility against the cravings of the reckless few rich ones,” he wrote.

The confrontation between Wike and the naval officer, which occurred in Abuja, has triggered widespread debate online, with Nigerians divided over who was right or wrong. While many citizens and public figures commended the officer for standing up to perceived intimidation, others criticized his approach, calling for restraint and respect for authority.

In response to the controversy, a legal practitioner, First Baba Isa, also shared his view on the matter. The lawyer expressed disappointment in Wike’s handling of the situation but maintained that the naval officer should not be considered a hero simply for performing his duties.

The incident continues to spark nationwide discussion on leadership behavior, discipline in public service, and the growing tension between political elites and security officers.
