Celta Vigo Shock Real Madrid 2–0 at the Bernabéu, Mount Pressure on Alonso

Real Madrid suffered a major setback in their LaLiga title chase on Sunday, falling 2–0 to a resilient Celta Vigo side that executed a disciplined, clinical performance at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Despite dominating the opening stages, Madrid failed to convert several clear chances. Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Júnior and Arda Güler all went close, with Güler missing the brightest opportunity from close range. The first half worsened for Los Blancos when defender Éder Militão limped off with a suspected hamstring injury.

Celta Vigo flipped the script early in the second half. A sharp attacking sequence ended with Bryan Zaragoza delivering a precise cross that Williot Swedberg brilliantly finished with a back-heeled flick to give the visitors a shock lead.

Madrid’s situation deteriorated minutes later when Fran García, already on a yellow card, made a late challenge on Swedberg and was sent off, leaving the home side with ten men.

Xabi Alonso’s men pushed desperately in the final minutes, but Celta remained defensively organised. Tensions rose in stoppage time as Álvaro Carreras was shown a red card for dissent. Moments later, Swedberg struck again, rounding goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to calmly secure his brace and seal a famous victory for the Galicians.
