Cheers’ Star George Wendt Passes Away Peacefully at 76

George Wendt, the beloved American actor best known for his role as Norm Peterson on the iconic NBC sitcom Cheers, has died.

Wendt passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the age of 76, according to a statement released by his publicist, Melissa Nathan.

The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.“George Wendt, cherished actor and comedian who starred in Cheers, has passed away.

His presence will be deeply missed,” the statement read.
