Chris Brown Shuts Down Instagram Amid Controversy and Legal Battles
American singer-songwriter Chris Brown has sparked social media drama after deactivating his Instagram account, which boasted over 75 million followers.
The move comes amid swirling controversies, including an unverified report by the Daily Mail that Brown allegedly charged $1,200 to take a photo with a male fan.
The singer had previously announced his intention to step back from social media, posting, “Ima take a break from social media. You all done pissed me off long enough.”
Brown’s deactivation follows ongoing legal troubles. In February 2023, he was accused of assaulting music producer Abe Diaw at London’s Tape nightclub, allegedly smashing a tequila bottle over Diaw’s head, punching, and kicking him.
Diaw subsequently filed a $16 million civil lawsuit claiming severe physical harm, emotional distress, and financial losses. Brown was arrested on May 15, 2025, in connection with the incident.
Fans have expressed a range of reactions online. Excel Chi suggested the singer might be struggling with depression, writing, “He might be depressed… I stopped showing up on social but ranted to God with tears. Thankful, I started having peace of mind and picked myself up to start over again.” Other comments included concerns about Brown’s temper and well-being, with users noting, “This dude has anger issues” and “Depression is real.”
As Chris Brown takes a break from social media, followers remain curious about his next moves amid personal and professional challenges.
