CUPP Slams APC Over Attacks on Peter Obi, Labels It a Diversion from Governance Failures
The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of launching targeted smear campaigns against Labour Party’s Peter Obi in a bid to distract Nigerians from the party’s poor performance in governance.
Reacting to recent remarks by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Mouka, who described Obi as hypocritical and lacking vision for the country, CUPP’s National Secretary, Peter Ameh, said the ruling party’s attacks were “baseless, desperate, and dishonest.”
Ameh, also a prominent member of the Labour Party, stated in Abuja on Monday that Peter Obi’s leadership record and reformist policies stand in sharp contrast to the APC’s track record of failed promises and growing public dissatisfaction.
“Contrary to these unfounded claims, Peter Obi’s record as a public servant and his policy positions remain steadfast, clear, and focused on uplifting Nigerians from multidimensional poverty,” Ameh said.
He noted that Obi has consistently advocated for reducing wasteful government spending, improving fiscal transparency, and implementing reform strategies that protect vulnerable populations.
Ameh criticized the APC for choosing to focus on vilifying opposition leaders instead of confronting the economic hardship millions of Nigerians currently endure.
“At a time when citizens are facing crushing inflation, worsening unemployment, and widespread insecurity, the APC should be offering solutions not distractions,” he said.
The CUPP said the ruling party’s “persistent resort to cheap propaganda” shows its unwillingness to be held accountable or engage in constructive national discourse.
“Rather than provide answers to two years of growing hardship and shrinking opportunities under their leadership, the APC would rather deflect blame by attacking credible figures like Peter Obi,” Ameh added.
He urged Nigerians to see through the ruling party’s tactics and demand results, not rhetoric, from those in power.
