“Cut Them Off If They Only Call for Money” – UK-Based Nigerian Woman Advises
A UK-based Nigerian woman, Obiageli Juliana Okoro, has stirred widespread reactions after urging people to distance themselves from family members who only contact them for financial assistance.
In a viral Facebook post, Okoro shared a tough-love message to those who constantly feel exploited by relatives who see them solely as a source of money. She wrote:
“If your family only calls you for financial help, block them. You are more than two in your family, but you are the only one they call for money! Block them! If anything happens to you, they will move on sharply.”
Her post quickly gained traction, especially among Nigerians in the diaspora, many of whom related to her experience of being financially pressured by family.
Supporters praised her candor, commending her for promoting boundaries and self-care, while others suggested maintaining communication but setting firm financial limits instead.
Okoro’s message resonated deeply across social media, sparking a wider discussion about emotional balance, family expectations, and financial independence.
For many, her words echoed a growing sentiment: helping others should never come at the expense of one’s peace or well-being.
