Daniel Regha Criticizes Tinubu’s $100K Reward to Super Falcons, Labels It Public Fund Misuse

Nigerian social media commentator Daniel Regha has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s monetary reward to the Super Falcons, calling it an irresponsible use of public funds amid widespread economic hardship.

President Tinubu recently awarded each player of the Super Falcons $100,000 and a three-bedroom apartment, alongside a $500,000 bonus to the team’s technical crew, in recognition of their performance. While the gesture was intended to celebrate the team’s achievement, it has sparked controversy online.

Daniel Regha, known for his vocal commentary on governance and public policy, strongly opposed the decision. He questioned the rationale behind such generous gifts when many Nigerian civil servants are reportedly grappling with unpaid salaries and harsh living conditions.

The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s national women’s football team, have consistently represented the country on international stages, earning praise for their talent and resilience. The recent rewards from the presidency followed their performance at an international tournament.

However, Nigeria continues to face economic challenges, including high inflation, subsidy removal impacts, and growing public debt conditions that have fueled public scrutiny of government spending.

“Super Falcons did a good job representing Nigeria, but why is Tinubu’s administration gifting the players $100K each with an added three-bedroom flat?” Regha posted.

“For a country crippled by poverty, and where civil servants are struggling to make ends meet, how does this even sit well with anyone? Sorry, but this is a misuse of public funds,” he added.
