Daniel Regha Sparks Backlash After Calling Burna Boy an Upcoming Artist Compared to Wizkid, Davido, and Olamide

Popular social media critic Daniel Regha has once again stirred controversy, this time by labelling Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy as an “upcoming artist” when compared to fellow Nigerian stars Wizkid, Davido, and Olamide.

Regha made the contentious statement during an episode of Doyin’s Corner, a podcast hosted by BBNaija alumna Doyinsola. While discussing the trajectory of Nigerian music legends, Regha asserted that Burna Boy, despite his global accolades, does not yet belong in the same league as the so-called “Big Three.”

“When Wizkid and Davido were blowing up, Burna was nowhere to be found,” Regha said. “He only came much later. There’s a generational gap in their rise to fame.”

Regha further emphasized that Burna Boy came up with a different cohort of artists and should not be lumped in with earlier mainstream pioneers.

“It’s like putting 2Baba and Wizkid on the same level. 2Baba had already done what they’re now doing. Burna might be a superstar today, but when it comes to musical timeline and influence, he’s still an upcomer in comparison,” he added.

The remark has drawn heavy criticism online, with many Nigerians accusing Regha of undermining Burna Boy’s achievements, which include global hits, sold-out concerts, and multiple awards including a Grammy.

@Speaktruth_x:

“Let’s not pretend. Olamide took a step back to build YBNL, but there was a time he ran the industry. This comparison game is unnecessary.”

@king_audacity:

“Daniel Regha always has something wild to say, then turns around to condemn others for being ‘disrespectful’.”

@josephhorlan:

“He says some truths, but this guy just dey talk anyhow sometimes. Werey vibes.”

Though polarizing, Regha’s commentary has reignited discussions around hierarchy in the Nigerian music industry and how timing, longevity, and mainstream appeal shape perceptions of status among top-tier artists.
