The 2025 edition of the Summerjam Festival in Germany has taken a surprising turn, stirring up heated debate among Afrobeats fans worldwide.

On Wednesday, June 25, the event organizers announced via Instagram that Nigerian superstar Davido would no longer be headlining the festival. Instead, they confirmed Burna Boy—his long-time musical rival and fellow global Afrobeats heavyweight—as the new headliner.

“We are more than heartbroken to inform you that due to logistical reasons, Davido will not perform at Summerjam 2025… so we came up with a master plan to bring back The African Giant,” the festival stated.

This bold move has reignited a fierce online battle between Davido’s loyal 30BG fans and Burna Boy’s Outsiders. While many Outsiders celebrated the switch as proof that Burna is now the bigger global star, Davido’s supporters defended their fave, citing scheduling conflicts with the Essence Festival in the US, which takes place the same weekend.
