Davido Reveals Desire to Act as a Taxi Driver in a Movie, Eyes Authentic African Stories
Award-winning Nigerian singer Davido has revealed his interest in exploring the film industry, expressing a desire to play the role of a taxi driver in a movie.
The singer shared his aspirations during a panel session at the 2025 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in Lagos, held under the theme “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeat Movement and Its Impacts on African Film.”
“My brother was saying that he was going to give me a role. I told him I wanted to do a role that would be shot as a taxi driver or something out of the blue,” Davido said.
Davido explained that acting is part of his broader plan to expand his creative expression beyond music. He hopes to collaborate with African filmmakers and contribute to films that authentically tell African stories. Drawing inspiration from global entertainers who have successfully transitioned into film, he cited American rapper and actor 50 Cent as a key influence.
“I definitely want to get involved in movies,” Davido said, emphasizing his eagerness to combine music and film to showcase African narratives globally. He further noted that his goal is to highlight African creativity and culture, drawing inspiration from story-driven productions like the series Uncorked, which focus on identity, culture, and personal journeys.
The singer stressed that African music and film are powerful tools for cultural diplomacy and international recognition, and he hopes to leverage both mediums to share authentic African experiences with the world.
