Deji Adeyanju to Peter Obi: You Must Contest 2027 Presidential Election — No Shortcuts
Human rights lawyer and political activist, Deji Adeyanju, has urged Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, to contest again in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that he must not take the “easy route” by joining forces with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Adeyanju made the statement in a post shared on social media, where he stressed that Obi must remain on the ballot to prove his political strength and test the loyalty of his supporters, known as the Obidient Movement.
He wrote:
“Obi must be on the ballot in 2027; I want to check something. It’s Obi or nothing in 2027. He must not get the easy way out by becoming Atiku’s deputy. He can do it all by himself with his Obidient mob. Go Ekuke FC, go.”
The post quickly went viral, sparking a flurry of reactions across social media. While some users supported Adeyanju’s statement, others criticized his tone, calling him out for his history of controversial remarks.
One user, Toba Popoola, mocked Adeyanju’s consistency, recalling his earlier claim that he would “trek from Abuja to Kano” if Obi received one million votes in 2023.
Another commenter, Godswill Chigozie, challenged him to directly tag Peter Obi in his post, suggesting that he was merely seeking attention.
“You think Nigerians have time for other politicians? In a free and fair election, Obi will win before 2 p.m.”
Despite the mixed opinions, Adeyanju’s comments have reignited conversations about the 2027 race and whether Peter Obi will run again after his strong showing in 2023, where he finished third behind Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
