Dele Momodu Resigns from PDP, Labels Party a “Carcass” Overtaken by Anti-Democratic Forces
Chief Dele Momodu, renowned journalist and former presidential aspirant, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as of July 17, 2025.
In a strongly-worded resignation letter addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Thievhe, Owan East Local Government Area, Edo State, Momodu expressed deep frustration over the party’s direction and management.
Momodu described the PDP as having been “hijacked by anti-democratic forces” both from within and outside the party. He characterized this takeover as occurring in “broad daylight,” suggesting a blatant disregard for democratic principles.
He lamented the decline of the PDP from its former status as a vibrant opposition to what he now calls a “carcass,” claiming that the leadership has failed the expectations of Nigerians seeking authentic political alternatives.
Having joined the PDP in 2021, Momodu contested for the party’s presidential ticket in the 2023 elections. His resignation reflects not just a personal disappointment, but a broader disillusionment with the party’s current trajectory.
In his official letter, Momodu stated:
“I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect. My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.
It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
He further conveyed his gratitude for the support received during his time in the PDP and stressed that the move was about upholding integrity and finding new hope for genuine political reform.
Momodu urged sincere PDP members to align themselves with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a new coalition party focused on true democratic values. He implied that the ADC offers a platform for those disillusioned by the PDP’s recent developments to continue their pursuit of good governance.
