DSS Arrests Man in Rivers State Over Online Call for Military to Oust Tinubu
A man in Oyigbo, Rivers State has been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for posting online messages urging the military to overthrow the government.
Innocent Chukwuma, known on X (formerly Twitter) as @TheAgroman, reportedly wrote:
“A coup in Nigeria is needed… Only the military can reset this country. Support them.”
DSS sources said they tracked Chukwuma, verified his activity, and seized devices linked to the posts. The suspect is reportedly cooperating, and authorities are investigating his networks to determine if anyone else was involved.
Officials stressed that the arrest is meant to deter unconstitutional calls and protect national stability. Legal experts note that urging military intervention is a criminal offense in Nigeria, with potential real-world consequences if unchecked.
Social media reactions have been mixed, with some condemning the posts and others questioning the balance between free speech and national security.
DSS investigations are ongoing, and charges may be filed depending on findings.
