Edo State Implements Strict Waste Management Policies to Promote a Cleaner Environment

Edo State Government is intensifying its efforts to promote a clean and healthy environment through robust waste management policies, including profiling waste collectors and banning unauthorized dumpsites across the state.

The Edo State Waste Management Board (ESWMB) has spearheaded these initiatives under the “Project Clean-Up Edo” (PCUE) campaign which aims to overhaul waste collection, disposal, and recycling systems for sustainable environmental stewardship.

The project includes stringent profiling of licensed waste collectors to ensure accountability and effective service delivery.

Furthermore, the government has declared a firm ban on illegal dumpsites and indiscriminate dumping, enforcing penalties against violators.

This move seeks to eliminate environmental hazards, curb pollution, and safeguard public health. The ESWMB regularly conducts sensitization and enforcement drives, coupled with community mobilization for monthly sanitation exercises.

Edo State has also invested in modern waste management equipment and the development of regional offices to coordinate localized waste solutions, encouraging responsible waste disposal practices among residents.

Initiatives like providing litter bins to motorists and expanding waste collection services to underserved areas embody the government’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and sustainability.

Authorities continue to urge all citizens, including schools, businesses, and households, to actively participate in the sanitation drives and comply fully with waste disposal regulations to achieve a cleaner Edo State.

This comprehensive approach reflects Edo State’s determination to serve as a model of environmental excellence, blending government action, private sector participation and community responsibility to promote a healthier and more sustainable living environment for all.
