EFCC Cracks Down on Celebrities Over Naira Spraying.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned popular Kannywood singer, Hamisu Breaker, and TikTok influencer Abubakar Ibrahim, popularly known as G Fresh, at the Federal High Court in Kano for violating Nigeria’s currency abuse laws.
The arraignment, presided over by Justice Sale Musa Shuaibu, comes after videos surfaced online showing both celebrities publicly spraying large sums of naira during separate events.
According to the EFCC, Hamisu Breaker was found guilty of spraying ₦30,000 in ₦200 denominations during a celebration in Hadejia, Jigawa State. G Fresh, on the other hand, was convicted for spraying bundles of ₦1,000 notes during a shop opening in the Tarauni area of Kano.
Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to five months in prison or a fine of ₦200,000 each.
These convictions are part of the EFCC’s renewed crackdown on the abuse of the naira at public events, following repeated warnings against spraying, mutilation, or inappropriate handling of Nigeria’s currency.
