The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the successful conviction and sentencing of 146 foreign nationals involved in cyber-enabled financial crimes within Nigeria.

EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, disclosed this on Wednesday during the opening session of the International Cybersecurity Conference held at the Abuja Continental Hotel. The event was organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

He also announced that the EFCC is set to launch a state-of-the-art Cybersecurity Centre designed to detect and respond to cyberattacks within an hour. Additionally, the agency is establishing a 500-capacity research and rehabilitation facility for convicted cyber offenders.

“This success demonstrates our resolve to tackle financial crimes with global dimensions. We are committed to strengthening our infrastructure and international partnerships,” Olukoyede stated.
