Efe Warriboy Slams Benue Governor for Declaring Public Holiday After Yelewata Massacre

Popular Nigerian comedian, Efe Warriboy, has taken to social media to fiercely criticize the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for declaring a public holiday on June 18 to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—just days after a tragic massacre claimed the lives of over 200 residents in the Yelewata community.

In a strongly worded Instagram video that quickly went viral, Efe expressed outrage, questioning the morality and priorities of the governor. He condemned the insensitivity of celebrating a presidential visit when families were still mourning their loved ones.

Efe said:

“A man buried 20 of his relatives, and your priority is to declare a public holiday to welcome the president? Tinubu should enter Benue quietly, not for a parade!”

He went further to criticize Governor Alia’s religious credentials, suggesting that once people get political power in Nigeria, especially under the APC, they lose their moral compass:

“Whether you’re a Reverend Father or a Senior Pastor, once you enter politics, a demon possesses you. And once you join APC, that demon doubles.”

The comedian also slammed the government’s failure to declare a period of mourning for the victims, accusing Alia of using Tinubu’s visit as a political move to boost his chances ahead of the 2027 elections.

Drawing a sharp contrast, Efe praised former Governor Samuel Ortom for consistently speaking up during times of crisis. He asked rhetorically:

“Is Tinubu coming to commission roads or corpses? Even if there’s a secret plan to reduce Nigeria’s population, must you be this obvious?”

Many Nigerians have since joined Efe in expressing their frustrations online. The video has sparked intense debate, with commenters applauding Efe’s bravery and condemning the government’s perceived lack of empathy.
