Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji Declares Second Term Bid, Vows to Consolidate on Achievements
Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has officially declared his intention to seek re-election for a second term in office under the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.
The declaration was made on Monday during a strategic meeting with members of the APC State Working Committee held at the party’s secretariat in Ado-Ekiti. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Ekiti governorship poll for June 20, 2026.
Governor Oyebanji expressed deep appreciation to the party leadership for the continued trust and support shown to his administration since he assumed office.
He highlighted key milestones achieved under his leadership and emphasized the importance of sustaining the development trajectory initiated over the past few years.
According to Oyebanji, his administration has delivered on all major campaign promises made during the last election, including infrastructure renewal, improved security, investment in agriculture, job creation, and enhanced access to quality education and healthcare.
“I have come today to formally inform our great party of my intention to run for a second term as governor. It is not about ambition; it is about duty. We cannot afford to lose the momentum we have built. Ekiti must not slow down,” the governor said.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to party values and internal democracy, pledging to continue giving due recognition and respect to APC elders, stakeholders, and loyal members, whom he described as the bedrock of the party’s enduring success in the state.
Governor Oyebanji’s announcement marks the beginning of what is expected to be a heated political season in Ekiti, as parties prepare their strategies and candidates ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
