El-Rufai: Our Support for Tinubu Was Genuine, Not Self-Serving

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, stated on Monday that his backing of President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 election was not motivated by any desire for personal favors.

El-Rufai, a key member of the Northern governors in the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), had previously emphasized that a Southerner should succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

After Tinubu was nominated as the party candidate, he won the election against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

Recently, El-Rufai has been vocal in his criticism of the Tinubu administration and the APC, leading to exchanges online with some of the President’s aides.

On Sunday, a user on X, tweeting as @realYusufTukur, claimed that Tinubu’s team had sought El-Rufai’s support before the election and had praised him, but later accused him of not backing the president.

In response to the tweet, El-Rufai clarified that he had no personal expectations for his political moves.
