Hon. Engr. Williams Tochi Amuka, member representing Igbo-Etiti West Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, has fulfilled his pledge to support indigent students by disbursing WAEC registration fees to 57 beneficiaries drawn from across the constituency.

The disbursement took place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the lawmaker’s residence in Aku. The beneficiaries were selected from the five political wards of the constituency—Aku, Ozalla, Udueme, Ohebe and Ikolo—with each student receiving ₦50,000 to cover WAEC registration and other school-related charges.

The initiative, coordinated by the Scholarship Board chaired by De Humble Chris Nnadi, is part of Hon. Amuka’s ongoing educational support programme, which he has sustained since his election into the State House of AssemblyAddressing the students, Hon. Amuka expressed gratitude to the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, for his administration’s investments in education and healthcare, particularly the Smart Green Schools and Type C hospitals across the state. He congratulated the beneficiaries and explained that the scheme was inspired by his own experience as a secondary school student who struggled to raise WAEC registration fees.

He urged the students to make good use of the opportunity, remain mindful of the less privileged in society, and strive for academic excellence. The lawmaker also encouraged eligible beneficiaries to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing the importance of civic participation. He commended the Scholarship Board for its transparency and diligence in managing the disbursement process.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Mr. Nnadi thanked Hon. Amuka, for his consistency, noted that the programme has been sustained for three consecutive years. He advised the students to ensure that the funds are used strictly for their examinations.

Representatives of the beneficiaries, including Master Ezukwoke Chimdalu Desmond (Community Secondary School, Aku), Ugwu Chinedu Gloria (Community Secondary School, Ohebe Dim) and Agu Rejoice (Community Secondary School, Ozalla), expressed appreciation and offered prayers for the lawmaker’s success, including his aspiration for a second term. They pledged to emulate his compassion by supporting the poor in the future and encouraged fellow students to study hard to justify the gesture.

Parents of the beneficiaries also praised Hon. Amuka for his commitment to grassroots welfare, describing him as a consistent and compassionate leader whose interventions have positively impacted many families within the constituency.

The event also recalled the lawmaker’s empowerment programme held on December 23, 2025, during which he distributed bursaries to undergraduates, cash grants to women, agricultural tools, fertilizers, grinding machines, motorcycles and sewing machines to constituents.

In his remarks, a stakeholder in Aku and former Enugu State Surveyor General, Dr. Augustus Didigwu, lauded Hon. Amuka prioritising the welfare of the poor, describing such dedication as rare in contemporary politics.

The programme concluded with an endorsement by community members of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah, and Hon. Engr. Williams Tochi Amuka for second terms in office.
