The Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Ali Cajectan Chineye, has enlightened students on employment opportunities, challenges, and prospects.
Since assuming office as Enugu NANS Chairman, Comrade Ali has been synchronizing various student engagement activities.
In an interview with ESUT Monitor Newspaper after the National Association of Nigerian Students Security Summit, themed “Security, Career, Leadership, and Employability Training 2025,” at the Institution of Management Technology (IMT) on Friday, he stated that Nigeria’s current state of insecurity has made it essential for students to acquire skills.
“Employments are not guaranteed, and your field of study may not bring food to the table,” he said. “Skill acquisition is essential in today’s world; there is no job, but there is a skill.” He emphasized the importance of managing finances well, citing examples of successful individuals who started from scratch.
Comrade Ali noted that students can explore various opportunities, such as solving problems, dry cleaning, volunteering, investments, and selling ideas, to earn money. He also highlighted common mistakes students make due to financial illiteracy, including lack of financial learning, following get-rich-quick schemes, and unnecessary spending.
The training aimed to create awareness on employability, emphasizing that being employable is different from being educated. “We are concentrating on the employability aspect, positioning students to be aware of the concept of employability, and acquiring skills beneficial to society,” he explained.
He further stated that The program, attended by about 350 student leaders, aimed to sanitize students on positioning themselves and acquiring necessary skills. Comrade Ali advised Nigerian students to acquire skills, as the world is changing rapidly, and the 4th Industrial Revolution demands adaptability
As NANS Chairman, he emphasized the importance of serving others, stating that , “It is very possible for us to lead with purpose, passion, and desire to pure service.” He encouraged students to focus on the end goal and strive to make a positive impact he said.
