Enugu Police Arrest 13 Suspects Following Ambush on Officers in Udi LGA
The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 13 men in connection with an ambush on police officers in Akpakume community, Udi Local Government Area.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the attack occurred on Monday as officers moved to apprehend suspects involved in conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, and cult-related activities.
“Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, in the early hours of 3rd November 2025, arrested thirteen (13) male suspects and recovered a locally made single-barrelled gun in Akpakume community, Udi LGA,” Ndukwe said in a statement on Wednesday.
He added that the suspects and their associates had laid an ambush, opening fire on the police team. Several officers sustained injuries, and a police vehicle was damaged.
“The operatives quickly responded with superior firepower, forcing many of the attackers to flee, some with severe gunshot wounds. A locally made single-barrelled gun was recovered during the arrests,” he explained.
Ndukwe noted that the gunfire also shattered the lights of the police vehicle and caused damage to other nearby vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, visited Akpakume on Tuesday with senior officers to assess the damage. They discovered that the suspects had destroyed houses, shops, crops, and livestock belonging to residents.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that these criminal acts are linked to ongoing intra-communal disputes in the area,” Ndukwe added.
CP Giwa has ordered a manhunt for other fleeing suspects and urged residents to remain calm while continuing their daily activities. He assured that the police command is committed to bringing all perpetrators of the attack to justice.
