Enugu Progressives Urge Governor Mbah to Join APC Ahead of 2027 Elections
As the 2027 general election approaches, the Progressive Group in Enugu State has expressed readiness to warmly welcome Governor Peter Mbah into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dr. Ben Nwoye, leader of the group and immediate past Chairman of APC in Enugu State, said the group is eager to embrace Governor Mbah, currently of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), should he choose to defect to the ruling party.
Nwoye dismissed speculations that Barr Ugocukwu Agballa and the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, could block the governor’s entry into APC.
He explained that the Progressive Group comprises APC members, apolitical individuals, and members of other parties who share a progressive vision for Enugu State and Nigeria.
“Agballa has been suspended by his ward, and a court has barred him and nine others from acting as APC officials. The minister is merely a Federal Executive Council member and cannot speak for the party,” Nwoye said.
At a recent meeting, the group moved motions endorsing President Bola Tinubu and Governor Mbah as their sole candidates for the 2027 elections. They also pledged to support Governor Mbah’s potential re-election bid if he joins APC.
Highlighting the benefits Enugu State has gained from the Tinubu administration, Nwoye noted:
“The president has effectively used subsidy savings to support Enugu. He approved the Federal University of Agriculture for the state and appointed an Enugu son as Chief of Naval Staff, along with sanctioning a naval base in Enugu.”
He concluded, “We will reciprocate by supporting his re-election in 2027.”
Nwoye reiterated that rumors of obstacles to Governor Mbah’s joining the APC are unfounded.
The meeting brought together APC chieftains from all 260 political wards in Enugu State, alongside other political stakeholders.
