Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, the former Governor of Sokoto State, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to focus on a new project aimed at empowering young Nigerians.

In a letter dated January 8, 2025, addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Bafarawa described his decision as “profoundly personal and challenging” yet necessary to align with his new vision centered on youth empowerment.

Bafarawa’s new initiative focuses on inspiring, empowering, and changing the lives of young individuals, who he believes are the cornerstone of Nigeria’s future. He acknowledged the PDP’s contributions to Nigeria’s political progress but stressed that his decision was made to prevent potential conflicts of interest as he redirects his attention to this new endeavor.

Bafarawa’s resignation from the PDP marks a significant shift in his political career, which spans over four decades. He had previously served as the Governor of Sokoto State from 1999 to 2007 and was a presidential candidate in the 2007 elections.
