Falana Slams Fuel Pricing Disparity as Dangote Product Sells Cheaper in Togo Than Nigeria
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has expressed concern over reports that fuel from the Dangote Refinery is being sold at a lower price in Togo than in Nigeria.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, Falana said Nigerians are already struggling under severe economic hardship and should not be further burdened with what he described as “multiple taxation.”
He urged the federal government to urgently reconsider its proposed 5 per cent fuel surcharge, warning that the levy would pile additional costs on consumers who already pay VAT on fuel purchases.
“What Nigerians are complaining about is that Dangote fuel exported from Nigeria is cheaper in Togo than here by about ₦65 per litre.
If this is true, then the government must go back to the drawing board to ensure that it is not imposing double taxation or worsening the hardship of the people,” Falana said.
The senior lawyer stressed that reviewing both the proposed tax and the fuel pricing structure is necessary to prevent further discontent among Nigerians.
