“Falz Slams Nigeria’s Stagnation in 2025: ‘We’re Still Shouting Up NEPA!’”

Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has taken a swipe at the country’s persistent infrastructural decay, expressing disbelief that Nigerians are still grappling with basic issues like electricity and flooding in 2025.

In a candid interview with HipTV, Falz, whose real name is Folarin Falana, lamented the nation’s stagnation, saying:

“It’s wild that in 2025, we’re still dealing with ‘Up NEPA’. The power situation is embarrassing.”

He didn’t stop there. Falz also ridiculed Nigeria’s poor drainage systems, highlighting how even minor rainfall leads to flooding.

“Every time it rains, people are basically swimming through their neighborhoods. It’s shameful.”

Beyond infrastructure, Falz delved into mental health challenges within the entertainment industry, calling it a “mad” space where many suffer in silence.

“Everyone is mad in their own way—just at different levels,” he said bluntly.

On a personal note, Falz recounted a painful heartbreak from his past. He had planned a romantic dinner with flowers and ambiance—only to be rejected at the end of the night.

“I really liked the girl… but it turned out I was the only one in love,” he shared.

Falz also reflected on his journey growing up as the son of renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana. He said he has worked hard to build his own legacy.

“People used to say I had it easy. Now, they see my dad and say, ‘That’s Falz’s father.’ That’s growth.”
