Family Feud Keeps Nigerian Man Unburied for Nearly Five Years
A Nigerian woman has sparked online conversations after revealing that her friend’s late father has remained unburied almost five years after his death due to an unresolved property dispute between his two wives and their children.
The revelation was made by X (formerly Twitter) user @Anambra_girl, who used the incident as a cautionary tale against polygamy.
According to her, the deceased man was married to two wives, and since his passing, both families have been locked in a bitter battle over the distribution of his assets. The prolonged conflict has stalled burial arrangements, leaving the man’s remains unlaid to rest for years.
“You see polygamy? Avoid it if you can. My family friend’s dad died almost five years ago and they can’t bury him yet because the two wives with their children are still dragging for the property,” she wrote.
She further explained that despite the man leaving behind a will and appointing friends to work alongside his lawyer to manage the estate, no progress has been made. The properties, she added, have since fallen into disrepair.
“His properties are left to ruins because the family he left behind can’t come to agree. Even the will he wrote… still they couldn’t do it till date,” she added.
The post triggered strong reactions from social media users, many of whom expressed disbelief and shared their own experiences with polygamous family disputes.
@OnyeAguata commented: “Nobody in the entire family ever loved the man. So nobody ever said they should set their greed aside and bury the man first?????”
The incident has reignited discussions on the challenges and potential pitfalls of polygamy, particularly in relation to inheritance conflicts.
