Fan Takes Cardi B to Court Over Viral Mic-Throwing Incident.

An Ohio woman, identified in court documents as Jane Doe, has filed a lawsuit against Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B, accusing her of assault and seeking $15,000 in damages after an alleged mic-throwing incident during a 2023 performance in Las Vegas.

The incident occurred at Drai’s Beachclub, where Cardi B real name Belcalis Marlenis Cephus was performing to a packed crowd. According to the lawsuit, viral footage from the show shows someone in the audience splashing water at the rapper, prompting her to throw her microphone into the crowd in apparent retaliation.

Jane Doe alleges that although several fans had splashed water earlier without incident, Cardi B had initially encouraged the crowd to do so, leading fans to believe it was acceptable. However, when she joined in, the rapper reportedly hurled her microphone in her direction, striking her on the right shoulder.

As outlined in the legal complaint, the fan is claiming bodily injury, emotional distress, humiliation, reputational damage, and financial loss as a result of the event. She also stated that the situation was made worse when the microphone used in the incident was auctioned off for nearly $99,000, a move she says deepened her emotional trauma.

Jane Doe is demanding a minimum of $15,000 in general damages, as well as unspecified special and punitive damages.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department opened an investigation, but the Clark County District Attorney’s Office ultimately declined to press charges, citing insufficient evidence.
