Farooq Kperogi Praises Lt. Yerima’s Courage, Criticises Wike’s Conduct in Viral Clash
Nigerian-American professor and public affairs analyst, Farooq Kperogi, has weighed in on the recent viral confrontation between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, calling it a defining moment of courage, composure, and principle.
Kperogi highlighted that the clash symbolised a confrontation between power and principle, likening it to an “unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.” He praised Yerima’s calm and respectful defiance, noting that the young officer stood his ground despite the social, political, and generational gap between him and Wike.
The analyst also criticised what he called “reverse ageism” in Nigerian culture, where older individuals use age as a tool to suppress dissent or invalidate criticism. According to Kperogi, the incident revealed more about Wike’s arrogance than Yerima’s youth, demonstrating that true maturity is measured by conduct, not age.
Kperogi concluded that Lt. Yerima represents a new generation of Nigerians unafraid to challenge intimidation with dignity and reason, reinforcing that integrity and courage can prevail even in the face of authority.
