Father Criticises School for Giving Assignment to His 2-Year-Old Daughter

A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after criticizing his two-year-old daughter’s school for giving her an assignment even though she has not yet started speaking. In a viral video, the visibly upset father questioned why any school would hand out homework to a child so young, especially on just the second day of resumption.

He expressed frustration over the development and demanded a refund of the fees he had paid, stating firmly that his daughter would not be returning to the school.

According to him, his decision to enroll the little girl was simply to keep her engaged during the day so the family could have some rest at home, not for her to be burdened with academic work. He wondered who the school expected to complete the assignment since his daughter was clearly incapable of doing it herself.

Venting further, he described it as unfair that he had to work hard, earn a salary, pay school fees, and still be required to do homework on behalf of a toddler who could not yet talk. He concluded by addressing the school proprietor directly, announcing that his daughter would not be coming back and that he wanted his money refunded.

The viral clip has stirred mixed reactions from social media users. While some agreed that giving a toddler assignments was unnecessary, others felt the man was exaggerating. One user, LaughNlearn, wrote: “But does everything really need to be posted on social media? Are the people on social media the ones who will solve this for you? Nawa ooo!”

Emmanuel teased him by saying, “Oga do that small mathematics wey dem give your daughter, you wan run?” Tobaaaaa added: “I’m very sure this is a private school, first day of school and you’re already loading a 2yr old with assignments. Pikin wey suppose de play de do homework.” AlphaMaxii also wrote: “Funny somehow, most schools give assignments that na parents go eventually help student, not making sense.”

Other users, however, saw it as a lesson in parenthood. Zionpearl commented: “Oga, no resting! You’re a father! If God had not given you that child, you would be up and down, MFM, NSPPD, Shiloh, IVF clinics, abroad, etc, looking for children. She’s two, you want to rest.

Do you know that dads are present even when their girls are 70?” Another user, Asgard, also shared: “My 1 year old child will be resuming school next week, God knows I will not tolerate any assignment from the school until he is able to read and write. My aim of sending him to school now is not to learn how to read and write but to socialize and have playmates.”

The video continues to circulate widely, with many debating whether it is right or wrong for schools to assign homework to children as young as two.
