Fayose Calls Out Pastors and Imams for Abandoning Congregations in Crises
Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has sparked debate after raising concerns about religious leaders who reportedly flee during attacks on places of worship in Nigeria.
Speaking on social media, Fayose argued that pastors and imams should not abandon their congregations in times of crisis. He wrote:
“Why are our pastors always the first to run whenever there is an attack on their church? This is so wrong. Why are they leaders then? Jesus didn’t run during His own time on earth. Our National Assembly needs to bring a law that’ll stop pastors and imams from running first.”
The post has generated mixed reactions online. Some users agreed with Fayose, pointing to the perceived hypocrisy and fear among certain religious leaders. Others stressed that pastors and imams are human and should not be expected to face armed threats without protection.
Social media users reacted strongly:
- @TDeeney01 commented: “If e reach your turn, no run.”
- @wings_6070 wrote: “Pastors fear death more than their members. They preach about heaven but are afraid to die.”
- @Gerald_95 added: “Pastor no wan die but them wan go heaven.”
The debate highlights ongoing discussions in Nigeria about leadership responsibility, public safety, and the expectations of religious figures during crisis situations.
