FCT Residents Will Use Council Polls to Reject Wike’s Leadership — Senator Ireti Kingibe

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the Senate, has declared that Abuja residents will make their dissatisfaction with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike known during the upcoming local government elections.

Speaking during an interview, Kingibe criticized the minister’s leadership style, claiming that he is disconnected from the real needs of the people.

“The truth is that the people of the FCT resent Wike. They are not happy with his attitude and his failure to meet their needs,” she stated.

Kingibe described the council elections as a referendum on Wike’s performance and warned that voters would use the polls to send a clear message.

“The people will show him who owns the FCT during the council polls,” she added.

Her remarks come amid widespread complaints from FCT residents over the lack of essential infrastructure and public services, especially in rural communities.

One notable example is Chetta, a settlement in Gaube Ward of Kuje Area Council, where residents are at serious risk of waterborne illnesses. With their only stream dried up during the dry season, locals have resorted to using contaminated water from a site overtaken by illegal gold miners for drinking, cooking, and other domestic needs.

Despite efforts by previous and current administrations, many FCT communities like Chetta still lack access to clean and safe water a fundamental necessity.

Kingibe’s comments have reignited calls for urgent government intervention in underserved areas and renewed scrutiny of Wike’s approach to governance in the capital territory.
