Federal Capital Territory Receives ₦2 Billion Health Intervention Package from First Lady Remi Tinubu to Enhance Tuberculosis Care
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has received a ₦2 billion health intervention package from Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu aimed at bolstering healthcare delivery and combating tuberculosis across the territory.
The announcement was made by the FCTA Mandate Secretary for Health and Environmental Services Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe during the unveiling of 10 new molecular tuberculosis (TB) diagnostic machines in Abuja.
The ₦2 billion intervention is designed to improve quick and accurate diagnosis of TB enhance coordination among primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities and support efforts to reduce the high rates of TB infections and deaths in Nigeria.
Dr. Fasawe emphasized that around 100 people contract TB daily in the country, with approximately seven fatalities each day, stressing the urgent need for preventive and curative measures.
The donated diagnostic machines, which feature solar-powered mobile chest X-rays and provide over 95% predictive accuracy will be deployed across the six Area Councils of the FCT to increase access to life-saving diagnostic services without the need for patients to visit secondary health centers.
This intervention aligns with ongoing collaboration between the FCTA, the Federal Ministry of Health and other funding partners to integrate TB care into the broader primary healthcare system.
Dr. Fasawe praised the First Lady as a champion of health causes, noting that her continual support since World TB Day initiatives has elevated attention and resources toward ending tuberculosis in the FCT and Nigeria at large.
This substantial health package forms part of Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s broader commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and outcomes in Nigeria reinforcing efforts to combat infectious diseases and promote community wellness across the Federal Capital Territory.
The FCTA and health officials expressed gratitude for this intervention underscoring its potential to save lives and strengthen the territory’s healthcare system comprehensively.
