Femi Falana Slams Trump’s Threats, Calls Nigeria’s Security Failure a National Embarrassment

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims of a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria and his threat of military action, describing the situation as an embarrassment stemming from the country’s weak security system.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) blamed the federal government’s failure to tackle insecurity, including rampant kidnappings, for creating room for external interference.

“Why have we brought this embarrassment to ourselves as a people, being treated like a neocolony of the United States?” Falana asked. “We cannot even challenge Mr. Trump. How dare you? Where is this hypocrisy coming from?”

Trump had last week labelled Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern,” citing what he described as a mass slaughter of Christians, and warned of possible U.S. military intervention if Nigerian authorities failed to act swiftly. On his Truth Social platform, he wrote, “If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians! The Nigerian government better move fast!”

Reacting to the controversy, Falana urged Nigerians and the government to take Trump’s warning as a wake-up call. “This is time for Nigeria to confront its internal problems with urgency. We are now seeing evidence that the government is providing information on counter-insurgency efforts and how many perpetrators are being brought to justice,” he said.
