FG Cancels 65th Independence Day Parade, Vows Dignified Celebration
The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade originally scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
The statement, released by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), emphasized that the decision does not diminish the significance of the milestone.
While no specific reason was provided for the cancellation, the government assured Nigerians that all other planned activities to celebrate the nation’s independence will proceed as scheduled.
“The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.
The administration also expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and called on Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests to continue supporting ongoing national reforms.
“The Federal Government appreciates the understanding, support, and cooperation of all Nigerians and urges citizens to back the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in making Nigeria a greater nation,” it added.
Earlier, the government had declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate the nation’s 65th anniversary of independence.
Despite the parade cancellation, the federal administration remains committed to celebrating the occasion with patriotism and dignity.
