The Federal Government has hailed the Super Falcons for their inspiring victory at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), describing the win as a historic achievement that has “inscribed Nigeria’s name in gold.”

In a statement released on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government commended the team’s courage, resilience, and unity in coming from two goals down to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic final held in Rabat.

The Minister praised the Falcons for showcasing the true Nigerian spirit and expressed President Bola Tinubu’s heartfelt congratulations to the players, coaching staff, and technical crew. He emphasized that their triumph will serve as a powerful inspiration to the next generation of Nigerians.

“With unmatched skill, stellar performance, discipline, and unity, our national heroines have lifted the spirit of the nation and brought joy to millions,” Idris said.

He also reiterated the government’s commitment to investing in sports development and supporting athletes across various fields. As part of the celebration, the Super Falcons were scheduled to be welcomed with a celebratory procession in Abuja from the City Gate to the Presidential Villa via Eagle Square.

“The Super Falcons have flown the Nigerian flag high and made us proud. Welcome home, champions of Africa,” the statement concluded.
